Chinese Yi Fan Jia/Qing Chen Chen are through to the women’s doubles final at DANISA DENMARK OPEN 2019 presented by VICTOR after a close match against Japanese Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota. The Chinese double won after three intense and nerve-wracking sets 18-21, 21-17, 21-18.
– We have a lot of respect for Fukushima and Hirota. They are always playing very well and they are a super double. It means a lot for us to beat them, said the Chinese double, Yi Fan Jia/Qing Chen Chen, after their semifinal victory against the world’s second best women’s double constellation, Sayaka Hiroti/Yuka Fukushima.
The Japanese went into the semifinal after a tough match Friday whereas Chinese Yi Fan Jia/Qing Chen Chen, on the other hand, had no struggle defeating quarter final opponents.
Today’s match was very close. The doubles were changing points all through the first set. The crowd witnessed badminton at its highest level.
Halfway into the first set, Fukushima/Hirota putted a massive pressure on the Chinese constellation and they managed to create an essential lead which lasted to the end and secured them the first set 21-18, despite of Jia/Chen fighting to close the gap.
The second set were close like the first but Yi Fan Jia/Qing Chen Chen found some extra energy and made a huge offensive pressure on the Japanese which worked out really well and gave Yi Fan Jia/Qing Chen Chen the second set 21-17.
The third set was extremely close. A shock went through the crowd, when Yi Fan Jia went down on the floor after an accident but kept on playing after some treatment from the doctors.
Yi Fan Jia/Qing Chen Chen were not affected by the accident and they continued to play like in the second set. After a brilliant fight in the end, Yi Fan Jia/Qing Chen Chen won the third and last set 21-18.
– We are super happy to be in the final. We will do our best tomorrow, said the Chinese double after the match.
