Semifinal prelude: Finals are at stake as several former world champions collide

The quarterfinals were full of electric matches and a couple of upsets. Today’s semifinals look just as tasty as multiple former and current world champions collide.


Things are heating up at DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR and there will be plenty of thrilling matches for the crowd to look forward to during saturday’s semifinals. Of all the picks, Viktor Axelsen against Chen Long looks like one of the tastiest.

The two former world champions collide in the semifinals. Axelsen defeated fellow Dane Anders Antonsen in the quarterfinals and is now the only remaining Dane. Chen Long defeated the world number three Chou Tien Chen in two sets. The two players have faced each other 16 times with mast majority of the wins going Chen Long’s way. The crowd will for sure be very invested in the match and, therefore, the atmosphere is bound to be electric.

Early in the day another two former world champions collide. After a grueling contest yesterday Carolina Marin faces the third seed in Nozomi Okuharra. They have played each other 13 times before, with seven wins for the Spaniard and six for the Japanese star. DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR is only her third tournament after an injury have kept her off the courts for most of the year. Marin has already won China open and is looking to continue her momentum. It’s close to guaranteed to be a close encounter between two former world champions.

In the men’s doubles there are two tasty looking fixtures. The Japanese Kamura/Sonoda, who made it to the final last year, are facing the routine paring of Ahsan/Setiwan from Indonesia. The pairings have faced each other six times before, with four of the wins going to the Indonesian couple.

The world number ones Gideon/Sukamuljo are facing Lu/Yang who have impressed during the tournament. In the quarterfinal they defeated the third seeds Liu/Li in a very entertaining match.

In the women’s double the forth and second seeds collide. Jia/Chen from China faces Fukushima/Hirota from Japan in at match that is bound to be exciting. The Japanese couple have won four of their last five meetings and has looked in great shape during the tournament.

A final at DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR is at stake and tension is bound to be high. It will be interesting to see who makes it to the final and who falls at the last hurdle.
