Tai Tzu Ying beats injured Chen Yu Fei: Now just one step away from reclaiming the titleOctober 19, 2019 2:16
Tai Tzu Ying powered past Chinese Chen Yu Fei 21-14, 14-11, dominating the 33-minutes encounter from the beginning. The match ended earlier than expected because the current All England winner Chen Yu Fei was forced to retire in the second game as a result of an injury.
The match between Tai Tzu Ying and Chen Yu Fei was shorter than expected. Before Chen Yu Feis injury the audience saw some good badminton from the two worlds class players. World number one, Tai Tzu Ying won the match 21-14, 14-11. After the victory, she was obviously relieved and happy and yet another time she thanked the spectators.
– I enjoy to play in this arena. I can feel the support from the crowd. It’s a pleasure, said Tai Tzu Ying.
Tomorrow, Tai Tzu Ying will face Nozomi Okuhara, who beat the Olympic champion, Carolina Marin, in a thrilling match earlier this Friday.
– It’s going to be a difficult match. I can imagine I have to run a lot. But I will fight to the end, explained the Taiwanese.
The defending champion in DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR, Tai Tzu Ying, ran into Chen Yu Fei in the semifinals this Friday afternoon. Before the match the two women’s singles players had been up against each other incredible 14 times. In their previous matches Tai Tzu Ying have had the upper hand, winning 13 of their battles.
This meant that Chen Yu Fei was extremely keen on reducing Tai Tzu Yings record in front of the Danish crowd in Odense Idrætshal. But yet another time the All England winner Chen Yu Fei came up short.
The beginning of the match was, as predicted, very close, and halfway through the first game, it was near impossible to predict which player would come away with the win.
But through most of the rallies it seemed like Chen Yu Fei was a step behind.
The Chinese had some difficulties making her own points and she went into the break trailing behind at 9-11.
Tai Tzu Ying increased the lead after the break with brilliant offensive play. Despite Chen Yu Fei brought up a tricky shot behind her back she could not follow the 25-year-old Tai Tzu Ying in the first game. The Taiwanese ended the first game by tapping the ball down on the Chinese side.
Chen Yu Fei established an early lead from the very start of the second game, causing Tai Tzu Ying to be a lot more under pressure.
But the skillful World’s number one was fast back as the most dominant player. When Tai Tzu Ying was leading the second game 13-11, Chen Yu Fei twisted her ancle and afterwards she was, unfortunately, not able to continue.
The spectators saw the accident on the big screen in the hall and it did not look good. In the tomorrows final, Tai Tzu Ying, will be up against Nozomi Okuhara.
